The Other Side of the Bridge

In the early 2000s, I was looking for wall décor for a new home.  One morning my designer called to tell me about a mirror that would be perfect for the living room. As I walked into her shop to view the piece, I noticed a woman painting scenes on the glass panes of old windows.  Intrigued, I asked the artist if she would paint a scene on a mirror I was about to purchase.  Once she agreed to the project, I bought the mirror.  I commissioned the artist to paint a landscape on my mirror: a picture of the Brooklyn Bridge featuring Brooklyn, not Manhattan, as the background.

As I marveled at the finished work – this delicate painting of the historic Brooklyn Bridge with Brooklyn as the background, I began to reflect on Brooklyn’s rich history.  Prompted to learn more, I did some research.  I was astounded to discover additional facts, historic events and well-known people affiliated with my hometown, the borough of Brooklyn. I began musing about all the great things that have happened and are still happening “on the other side of the bridge” – in Brooklyn.  I then named my artfully – painted mirror, “the other side of the bridge”, but I wanted to do more with my newfound knowledge.

I wanted to share what I had learned about Brooklyn with others who love or will grow to love Brooklyn – the borough on “the other side of the bridge." As I admired my beautifully- painted mirror, I designed a specialty label reflecting this unique perspective of the Brooklyn Bridge. My trademarked designer label is embroided on a variety of garments for Brooklynites and all Style Seekers.
